AIDS Ministry Awareness Committee

This group sponsors the Desserts! Desserts! Festival in the spring and cooperates in the AIDS Walk in the fall.  Desserts! Desserts! is a fundraiser for the House of Ruth, a social service agency in Louisville for those with HIV/AIDS.   

Crisis Intervention Program/St. Vincent de Paul Conference

This ministry provides direct assistance to individuals dealing with crisis situations.  Duties include making home visits with another volunteer to persons needing assistance in order to evaluate their needs and make recommendations to the Social Concerns Committee. St. Vincent de Paul Center/Society provides ongoing training.

Environmental Concerns Committee

Members of this committee explore ways the Cathedral and its parishioners can be responsible stewards of God’s creation.  They work with the facilities staff to promote environmentally-friendly practices on the Cathedral’s campus and provide education for parishioners and community members.

Housing Initiatives Committee

This group coordinates volunteers for Repair Affair, Project Warm, Habitat for Humanity, and similar projects.    

JustFaith

JustFaith is a 30-week educational experience, formation process and spiritual journey.  It focuses on the intersection of faith and justice and invites people to become agents of God’s compassion and healing in a wounded world.  Participants gather weekly for prayer, discussion of books and videos, presentations by guest speakers, retreats, and immersion experiences.

Legislative & Public Affairs Committee

Responding to our call to be faithful citizens, this group learns about and develops action plans regarding issues of social justice.  Committee members work with local, state, and national public officials and educate the parish and public about community issues.  The committee is involved with Catholic Charities, the Catholic Conference of Kentucky, and Bread for the World to publicly advocate for issues linked to Catholic Social Teaching.  The Cathedral is also a member of CLOUT, which advocates for social change in the Louisville community.  

CLOUT is an organization of religious congregations and groups which are working together to solve critical community problems. CLOUT is not a service provider, but a grassroots, direct action, multi-issue organization, which has come together to be a powerful force for improving the quality of life in our communities.  Presently, 21 congregations & groups with over 16,000 members are members of CLOUT. They come from all parts of Louisville Metro and represent a diverse mix of black, white, and Hispanic persons, coming from different religious traditions.

Respect Life Committee

The “seamless garment is a metaphor for a consistent ethic of life, one which stands for the protection of the right to life and for the promotion of all the rights which enhance life, from the womb to the tomb.”   These words, from the late Cardinal Joseph Bernadin (1983), reflect our Respect Life Committee’s approach to life issues.  Affirmed by the Social Concerns Committee, we strive to respect all life from womb to tomb by adopting a consistently compassionate manner toward all persons who struggle with life issues and decisions.  Committee members plan an annual Respect Life Prayer service, participate in educational seminars, and provide roses for newly baptized babies.

****The Cathedral, in partnership with the Archdiocese of Louisville, will hold a prayer vigil honoring life and lamenting the scheduled execution of death row inmate Gregory L. Wilson on Thursday, September 16th at 7pm. Please join us in peaceful prayer as we pay respect to all those affected by violence.****

Sandefur Dining Hall Committee

This committee oversees the operation of the Daily Lunch Program, plans volunteer and vendor appreciation events, and works on special projects connected to the Daily Lunch Program.
