The Cathedral of the Assumption is currently participating with the Archdiocese of Louisville in a capital campaign called, "Building a Future of Hope." The Cathedral is a resource not just for the parish and the archdiocese but also for the Louisville community at large and, especially, the downtown community. For almost 200 years, the Cathedral has served as a beacon within Louisville’s downtown – and a hub for one of the nation’s oldest dioceses. If the heritage established by the Cathedral and her parishioners is to continue, the structure that houses a wealth of diocesan and civic events, parish worship and parish outreach activities, must be maintained. The restoration that was begun under the auspices of the Cathedral Heritage Foundation must be completed if the Cathedral is to continue its varied and necessary mission. The Cathedral is not just a collection of bricks and mortar – it is the physical representation of a spiritual commitment. That commitment will be maintained with the funds raised in the capital campaign.
Thanks to the Building the Future of Hope Campaign and Koetter Construction, the long awaited revitalization of the Cathedral plaza has begun. The old concrete has been removed and replaced with an artful paver design. Additional lighting and a new handicap ramp will be added. Construction is scheduled to be complete by mid-September.
